Steve,For several years I subscribed to Civil Horizon, a blog by Mark Johnston. He is a very thoughtful free-market thinker and I (of course) enjoyed his perspective. He wrote on a number of topics from politics, business, growing older, athletics (he rowed at Princeton and rode a bike from coast-to-coast), among other topics. He stopped publishing Civil Horizon in late 2021, much to my chagrin. He has kept me and about 60 others on an email chain. His latest missive came this week and it made me think he would be a fascinating speaker for LSDM.After a few email exchanges, he has agreed to address us if we would like him to do so. I explained LSDM and the typical participant to him. Given the wide range of his Civil Horizon topics, I asked him if he had one that might appeal to our cohort. He suggested the following:Following a brief biographical sketch (college, law school while working, 13 years at big banks, 5 years as a founder of a broker/dealer, 17 building a private conglomerate as #2 and a host of educational and philanthropic endeavors), some observations on changes in our culture specifically the differences in outlook between our generation and today’s youth. He promises not to launch a kids-these-days rant, but look instead to some of the antecedent causes. He is available next week or the week of 2/28 or later. Can you please suggest a day or two. I think this might be pretty thought provoking stuff.
